Muslims all throughout the world practise fasting from sunrise to sunset for one month during the holy month of Ramadan. They abstain from eating and drinking throughout their fast, using this time for prayer and introspection. Every year, Ramadan falls in the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, which corresponds to the Gregorian calendar's March or April. Ramadan will be commemorated between March 23 and April 21, 2023, and its conclusion will be marked by the celebration of Eid ul Fitr when the first crescent of a new moon is visible. It is also known as Meethi Eid or Eid al-Fitr, and according to the Islamic calendar, it is observed on the first day of the month of Shawaal. This year, Eid-ul-Fitr will be observed between April 21 and April 23, depending on the sighting of the moon.
As on this day, believers break their fast and begin the new month of Shawaal on a joyful note, Eid-ul-Fitr is also known as Meethi Eid. Making sweet dishes like Sheer Khurma and Kimami Sevaiyan is hence a crucial aspect of this celebration.
