Hamilton retained list confirmed as players bid New Douglas Park farewell

Hamilton have confirmed Ben Stirling and Ronan Hughes will leave the club when their contracts come to a close this summer.

The New Douglas Park club's retained list following the end of the Championship season has been announced, with the duo departing.

All others who are out contract are in negotiations over extending their stays in South Lanarkshire.

Stirling spent the second half of the season out on loan at League One play-off winners Edinburgh City after initially joining Accies from Hibs two years ago, making 34 appearances.

Hughes meanwhile is a product of the club's academy and made 59 appearances. Mihai Popescu, Kai Kennedy, Josh Mullin and Joe Hilton have all returned to their respective parent clubs after their loans.

There is still uncertainty at New Douglas Park though as head coach Stuart Taylor's exit from the club still to be signed off.

A club statement reads: "Hamilton Academical FC wishes to provide supporters with the following squad update.

"The players who were on temporary transfer to us this season, will return to their parent clubs when their deals expire next month.

"We thank them all very much for their service to us over the past season, and wish them well for the future.

"Ronan joined the club’s academy at the age of nine, during his time at the club he has been everything from a ball boy to a first team player.

"Ben, 23, joined the club from Hibernian two seasons ago and made 34 appearances. We thank them and wish them all the best.

"The club remain in talks with other current players whose deals are also due to expire shortly. The club are also in talks to bring in some of our promising academy prospects on full time deals in the summer."
