Goalkeeper Ryan Fulton says Hamilton can't throw points away again after their Achilles heel returned to haunt them again on Friday night as Ayr struck a last-gasp equaliser to deny them a vital Championship win.
Andy Winter's sixth-minute strike had Accies seemingly heading for a win that would have put pressure on teams in and around the play-off slots, but Kerr McInroy's leveller four minutes into stoppage time leaves them chasing their rivals.
It's far from the first time this season that Accies have let leads slip, and Fulton says that has to be the last time.
The former Liverpool shot-stopper said: "It hurts, and obviously this isn't the first time it has happened this season.
"We need to definitely get that out of our system and stop it from happening again.
"But it hurts - we should have seen the game out, definitely.
"We were there - it was just that last 30 seconds.
"It's a great strike from the boy, but we can't let that happen again.."
A third successive win would have put Stuart Taylor's side in a great position going into the final four fixtures in the Championship, and while it isn't beyond Accies to challenge, Fulton admits it is now more difficult.
Fulton, 25, said: "We take it one step at a time and we look after ourselves. That was a good statement to play everyone who played at the weekend, and it would have been remarkable, three wins in a row, three clean sheets.
"It would have been nice to kick on until the end of the season and get a good run.
"We would hopefully make the play-offs and, same again, keep our form going until the end of the season.
"It would have put pressure on other teams who are playing on Saturday, but we just look after ourselves.
"That should have been three points there, we should be pushing up the table and chasing it, but it wasn't to be."
