Halo Infinite Season 5: Release date, features, forge AI and more

Halo Infinite Season 5 begins on October 17 at 7pm, bringing new maps, a fresh mode, a refreshed key weapon, and a return of the Flood from the very first Halo game in 2001.

Reckoning is the name for this next era of Halo Infinite.

What’s new? The peak of fan service in this update appears to be new Flood character-customisation elements. These let you look as though you’ve been infected by the parasitic alien organisms that were a primary antagonist way back in 2001’s Halo.

We look at what to expect.

Halo Infinite Season 5 new content

The new Extraction mode is a more substantive change in Halo Season 5: Reckoning.

This is expected to be a co-op mode where you and a bunch of friends or strangers claim sites on a map while competing against another team of players doing just the same.

The mode made its Halo debut in Halo 4. You might compare it to “capture the flag” but here the players have to defend the site from rival players as it is being excavated.

Season 5: Reckoning will also introduce two new maps, Prism and Forbidden.

Forbidden is set among ancient mossy ruins, and is a map of two halves, according to Halo Infinite level designer Cliff Schuldt.

“On one side, the map is dried-up and dead, while the other side is lush and green, featuring ancient aqueducts that are channelling water around this massive stone complex,” Schuldt told Halo Waypoint in an interview.

Prism is set in a cave system, one filled with the pinky-purple crystals that, in the game lore, are used to make ammunition for Halo’s iconic needler weapon.

Halo Infinite Forge updates

Next up, the game’s Forge level editor is to have a big upgrade. More than 200 objects will be added, and we’re getting what the Halo team calls an “AI Toolkit”.

This gives you more control over how enemies spawn and behave, how they move, and whether they are friendly or enemies, using what the developer is calling Campaign AI.

It should let players create richer and more immersive content, although the possibilities are already quite out-there for Halo Infinite’s Forge level editor. Take a look:

New for the core content of the game, Halo Infinite Season 5: Reckoning will add a tweaked version of the M392 Bandit assault rifle, the Bandit Evo. It has a 1.6x magnification sight and can hold more rounds than the original, up to 75.

Players will also be able to unlock customisations for free in Season 5. Each season of Halo Infinite includes a Battle Pass, which grants items as you play.

However, you typically have to pay real money for Halo Credits, which unlock the Battle Pass. Yet, the first 20 of 50 unlock levels will be free.

Halo Infinite Season 5: Reckoning is expected to go live at 7pm tonight.
