A salon visit turned into a nightmare for a woman. A recent case published in The New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM) highlights how ingredients in cosmetics are a potential threat to human health and how these chemicals interfere with our bodily functions.
A woman was found to have damaged kidneys post hair-straightening treatment, a common treatment process in the cosmetic industry opted for by women. After her salon visit, she experienced vomiting and back pain. The 26-year-old woman did not have any history of kidney ailments, reports have said. She had recurrent episodes of acute kidney injury due to oxalate nephropathy after hair-straightening procedures.
