Gwyneth Paltrow won the court case that retired optometrist Terry Sanderson brought forward, as he claimed she had crashed into him while they were both skiing in Utah in 2016.
However, during the trial, many people were surprised by the amount of odd comments made by Paltrow, from mentioning Taylor Swift, to asking if she could bring in 'treats' for the bailiffs.
Upon being questioned by Sanderson’s, attorney, Kristin Van Orman, Paltrow admitted she was “shrinking”, and went on to compliment Van Orman’s choice of footwear.
The bizarre exchange began when Paltrow confirmed her height, stating, “I’m just under 5ft 10ins. I think I’m shrinking though.”
Van Orman replied: "I am so jealous... I have to wear four-inch heels just to make it to 5'5"."
Paltrow went on to say that Van Orman’s shoes were “very nice”.
Van Orman also told Paltrow that she "probably had a better ski outfit" than everyone else on the slope, and while discussing the latter’s height, told her "You're small but mighty. Actually, you're not that small."
Paltrow was asked about her friendship with Taylor Swift, who also sued for $1 in the past.
She denied she got the idea for this case from Swift, but Van Orman wanted to know if the pair were friends.
Paltrow replied: “I would not say we are good friends; we are friendly; I’ve taken my kids to one of her concerts before but we don’t talk very often.”
Van Orman then asked: “You’ve never given Ms Swift personal, intimate gifts for Christmas…?”, appearing to make reference to a 2021 advert for Paltrow’s lifestyle brand Goop, which saw her place a sex toy in a bag labelled for Swift. This was not confirmed.
In another strange turn, Paltrow asked if she could bring “treats” into the courtroom for the bailiffs, as a way to thank them for their hard work.
Her attorney, Steve Owens, asked Judge Kent Holmberg: “Private security for my client wanted to bring in treats for the bailiffs for how helpful they've been. So, I wanted to do that transparently and see if there are any objections.”
While it wasn’t made clear what the “treats” were, the offer was refused.
The most stand-out quote from the trial however, was when Paltrow was asked to assess how she had suffered as a result of the 2016 crash.
She responded: “Well, we lost half a day of skiing”, in comparison to Sanderson’s four broken ribs, a concussion, and a brain injury.
