Former Sunderland boss Gus Poyet believes the League One play-off final clash against Wycombe is a "great opportunity" for the Black Cats to return to the second tier of English football. The Wearsiders have been searching for a way back to the Championship since their relegation in 2017.
Poyet claims Sunderland will know what to expect from Gareth Ainsworth's side, who won promotion to the Championship via the play-offs just two years ago. The Wearsiders have not won a play-off campaign in six attempts, but under Alex Neil, have found ways to win football matches.
The Scot has lost just once since taking over at the Stadium of Light and has won two previous play-off finals with former clubs; Hamilton Academical and Norwich City. Sunderland banished their 48-year wait to win under the Wembley arch and will be hoping to repeat the feat in less than a fortnight's time.

Speaking to BoyleSports, the former Black Cats boss said: "I won’t say they can do it but it’s another great opportunity. It didn’t look like they could do it a couple months ago and now they’re in a position to perform.
“You know what they’re going to get from Wycombe so now it’s about performing. Both teams have been in this position.
"It will be an incredible day and I know the whole city will be down for the day. I want Sunderland to win obviously as I have no affiliation with Wycombe.”
