Al Qaeda-linked group Jama'at Nusrat al-Islam wal Muslimeen (JNIM) on Tuesday claimed responsibility for an attack on a military police base in Mali’s capital Bamako. Mali's army said in a statement that it had control of the situation in the capital after what it called a foiled infiltration attempt by "terrorists" into the Faladie military police school as well as other unspecified locations.

Jihadis attacked a military training camp near the airport in Mali’s capital on Tuesday as explosions were heard in the area. Within hours, the government said it was temporarily closing the airport in Bamako.
