AHMEDABAD: The Gujarat high court on Friday permitted a 16-year-old rape survivor to undergo termination of pregnancy at her own risk and made it clear that doctors who have put their opinion on record will have immunity in case of any litigation that arises in future.
The rape survivor and her father, residents of Banaskantha district, approached the HC earlier this week seeking permission for abortion. It was their say that since it was a medico-legal case involving rape charges, doctors were not ready to terminate her pregnancy. Justice Ilesh Vora directed the Palanpur civil hospital for medical examination and sought doctors’ opinion on whether it is advisable to go for medical termination of pregnancy looking at her advanced stage of pregnancy.
