BENGALURU: A guest lecturer from Mysore University was on Sunday arrested for allegedly leaking 11 questions from the geography paper of the exam held for assistant professor posts at government first-grade colleges.
The accused is Soumya R, 30, from Mysuru, who was one of the candidates. She was arrested by Malleswaram police on the basis of a complaint by Ramya S, executive director of Karnataka Examinations Authority. The FIR against her was registered under IPC section 420 (cheating & dishonestly inducing delivery of property) and Information Technology Act.
In her complaint, Ramya said at least 11 questions from the geography paper were sent to many candidates via WhatsApp from Soumya’s phone on the day of the exam (March 14). The incident came to light when a letter signed by ‘aggrieved candidates’ reached Ramya, alleging Soumya had leaked many questions.
Sources told TOI it was established that Soumya had indeed sent 11 questions to some candidates before 8.30am on March 14. “We shall question her on the source of the leak,” a source said.
Immediately after arresting Soumya, police produced her before a judge and she was sent to judicial custody at Central Prison. Asked if any more arrests are likely in the near future, an investigating officer said: “There has to be someone who provided these questions to the accused. We’ll continue our investigation and when necessary, detain or arrest suspects.”
