A government agency in Russia has called for the ban of "Grand Theft Auto VI" before the game releases later this year.
There are only two options given by the Russian agency to Rockstar Games regarding "GTA VI," and it is to either pull out the game from the region or to release a special censored version to adhere to their requests.
Russian Agency Calls for 'GTA VI' Ban
According to a report by NEWS.ru (via ComicBook Gaming), World Russian Peoples Council deputy chairman and Bryansk Regional Duma member, Mikhail Ivanov, has called for a ban against "Grand Theft Auto VI."
According to the agency, Rockstar Games must either stop the game's release in Russia completely or release a special censored version in the region.
Rockstar Games still maintains the last adjustment to "Grand Theft Auto VI's" release date, which pushed it to November 19, 2026 from a previously announced window of late 2025.
The latest request by the Russian deputy chairman asks Rockstar Games to comply by the time "GTA VI" is released to the public later this year, giving them around 10 months to change the game if they want a presence in the region.
It has not been revealed if Rockstar Games will be penalized should it refuse to comply with the agency's request.
That said, it is expected that the Russian deputy chairman may yet again call and push for a ban against "GTA VI" should it release the original, uncensored version of the game come November.
'GTA VI': Russia's Concern for the Youth
Ivanov said that the "immoral content" depicted by "Grand Theft Auto VI" in the different aspects of the game may corrupt the Russian youth who will play the game.
According to Ivanov, "GTA's popularity makes it a particularly dangerous tool of influence. We must demonstrate civic responsibility and prevent our children from being sold the poison of corruption and permissiveness under the guise of entertainment."
The WRPC deputy chairman also specifically pointed out that the game's depiction of male striptease scenes in the game depicts "immoral content" and should be removed from the title if Rockstar still wants to sell the game in the region.
