GTA 6 gets a custom PS5 welcome screen for pre-orders and more after Sony brags Rockstar's new game runs "best" on its console

As you've no doubt noticed, GTA 6 is on the horizon. Releasing on November 19, GTA 6 pre-orders are now open, letting players prepare for Rockstar's new crime sandbox to engulf their lives. Sony's already rolled out the red carpet, plastering the game across PlayStation 5 landing pages, despite it being a multi-platform release.

If you boot up your PS5 console right now, the first thing you'll be greeted by is an advertisement for the sixth mainline Grand Theft Auto. The neon 'VI' symbol comes up first, before transitioning to a portal to pre-order. "Experience the biggest, most immersive evolution of the Grand Theft Auto series yet," reads the description, before inviting you to put money for the upcoming blockbuster.

Then, of course, if you move over to the store, you're immediately pointed toward the page for GTA 6. If you thought you could escape by using the PS App, think again. The icon's been altered to have a bright pink and blue aesthetic with palm trees, representing sunny Leonidas, the GTA universe's equivalent of Florida. There's even a bespoke banner on the PlayStation social media accounts.

Typically, this wouldn't be surprising, because developers, publishers and system manufacturers want you to buy their games. What makes this stand out is that Sony has nothing to do with putting out GTA 6. The series hasn't been console exclusive for decades, and while a PC port isn't happening day-and-date, Jason and Lucia's escapades will also be on Xbox Series X/S.

Sony is going hard on just how well the latest Grand Theft Auto will run on its current console, too. Mary Yee, senior vice president of marketing at SIE, published a blog detailing all the reasons why. "Grand Theft Auto 6 will play best on PS5 by taking advantage of PS5's immersive features to deliver a deeply engaging single-player experience," she writes, before going into all the ways the system will heighten the experience.

Many of Sony's own games don't get this treatment. Marathon and Saros definitely weren't pushed this hard, and I don't recall Spider-Man 2 being quite as prominent. Perhaps we'll see Marvel's Wolverine clawing at us from the dash come September, but I'm not so confident we will. Seems like GTA is truly in a league of its own.

Multiple retailers drop GTA 6 after physical version is confirmed to be a code in a box.
