Grosvenor Hotel fire: Jayde Adams jokes she had 'nothing to do with' blaze

Bristol's own Jayde Adams has jokingly ruled out having any part in causing a fire which broke out in a derelict hotel in Temple Meads last night (October 18). The comedian, 37, said she could not possibly have started the fire at the Grosvenor Hotel, as she was training with her Strictly partner, Karen Hauer.

The fire broke out around 10pm yesterday (October 18) evening at the Grosvenor Hotel in the Temple Meads area of Bristol, and took a number of hours to put out. Roads were still closed this morning as firefighters continued to deal with the incident, and video footage of the blaze showed huge flames and plumes of smoke coming out of the building.

The cause of the fire is still currently unknown, and Avon Fire Rescue Service are conducting ongoing investigations into how the blaze started. One thing seems to be pretty clear though - it had nothing to do with Jayde.

Now into her fifth week dancing for the masses on Strictly, the star has been busy rehearsing for this weekend's performance, where the couples will be dancing to the beat of the BBC in a celebration of the organisation's 100th birthday. So busy was Jayde, that she could not possibly have been at the site of the fire.

Posting her alibi to social media site Twitter, the star shared a video of the flames in the building, saying: "IT WASNT ME IM TRAINING FOR #strictlycomedancing Karen is my alibi."

Last week, the star wowed judges and viewers alike with a gorgeous American Smooth to Bette Midler's classic Wind Beneath My Wings in a heartfelt tribute to her sister who tragically died 11 years ago. In a clip before the beautiful dance, Jayde said: "Bette Midler was mine and my sister Jenna's most favourite musician when we were growing up.

"We used to have CDs of Bette all over the house and we'd make up dances to Bette in our parents' living room. The lyrics to the song really resonate. She [Jenna] was two years older than me, and she died 11 years ago."

The BBC 100th birthday special episode of Strictly can be viewed on BBC One and iPlayer at 6.40pm on Saturday 22 October, with the results show on Sunday at 6.45pm.
