Greece travel update as covid rule changes

After what has seemed like an eternity for some, summer is now firmly on the horizon.

All covid travel rules were drawn to a close in the UK in March, and many other nations have also eased restrictions in recent weeks and months. There are now dozens of countries people can travel to without being vaccinated or having to take a test.

After so much time at home, many of us are clearly keen to get away. Airlines such as Jet2, TUI and Ryanair have already said bookings for places such as Spain and the Canary Islands have increased over the past few months.

Last month, Greece lifted most of its covid restrictions for travellers giving a boost to holidaymakers. As of May 1, travellers no longer have to show they've been vaccinated or give proof of a negative test.

Foreign Office advice was updated to say: "The Greek government has confirmed that from 1 May, travellers arriving from the UK, USA and European Union countries are exempt from the requirement to show a vaccine certificate, proof of a negative test, or a certificate of recovery from covid to enter Greece."

Now the Greek government has relaxed another covid rule. Previously, face masks were mandatory in all indoor public spaces in Greece, including supermarkets and museums.

As of June 1, residents and tourists in Greece will only have to wear face masks while on public transport and in hospitals and care facilities for the elderly. In all other spaces there is no legal requirement to wear a mask.

A further easing of the restriction means from June 15, face masks will not be mandatory on any form of public transport and must be worn only in medical settings.
