Greece holidays are tipped to be the most popular option for British holidaymakers this year, according to one travel agent.
The Mediterranean nation has taken the top spot over ever-popular countries, Spain and Portugal, with the island of Zakynthos currently taking the number one place, according to booking data from Eliza was here.
The travel agent, which specialises in off the beaten track experiences, found six of the seven most popular individual destinations were in Greece, with both the mainland and Greek islands tipped to be Brits' go-to spots this year.
It's not hugely surprising, given the near record three million people who made the trip from the UK to Greece last year.
The country's rich culture, beautiful landscapes, and unique history, as well as the fact it is home to some of the most stunning beaches and islands in the world, makes it clear why.
If that doesn't float your boat, then countless ancient ruins and archaeological sites, delicious food, friendly locals, and vibrant cities may do the trick.
Based on Eliza was here booking data, the below are the most sought after Greek regions right now:
- Zakynthos
- Crete
- Corfu
- Rhodes
- Kefalonia
- Lefkas
- Halkidiki
