Granit Xhaka sends Arsenal message over fitness ahead of Manchester City title battle

Granit Xhaka will divert his attention back to Arsenal's Premier League title race this week when he returns to training with the Gunners. The midfielder exited the World Cup on Tuesday evening with Portugal putting six past Switzerland in the last 16.

Arsenal's World Cup stars were given time off before returning to Mikel Arteta's squad following their elimination from the tournament. Matt Turner, Thomas Partey and Ben White have all already returned to the Gunners' training base in Dubai ahead of Boxing Day's clash against West Ham.

Xhaka was helpless in Switzerland's 6-1 defeat to Portugal last week. Arsenal target Goncalo Ramos made a name for himself at the Lusail Iconic Stadium with an impressive hat-trick, ending Xhaka's tournament after they progressed through their group with six points.

Over the past few days, Xhaka's wife, Leonita, has posted a couple of shots on the Gunners midfielder with his children during a short break in Dubai. And today, the 30-year-old posted an update on his fitness on his personal Instagram page.

Alongside three images of Xhaka on a personal boat, the Swiss skipper posted a battery emoji. The midfielder escaped the World Cup with no concerns to his fitness, despite featuring in all four games.

The update will be a pleasing one for supporters and Arteta ahead of the Gunners' hectic schedule set to meet them in 2023. Alongside the intense title race alongside Manchester City, Arsenal will compete in three other competitions including the Europa League.

With the unfortunate news that Gabriel Jesus is expected to miss a number of months, having the remaining members of his key personnel fit and firing will be vital for Arteta to enjoy a positive second half of the season.
