Graham Potter snubs Leicester City offer for two key reasons after Chelsea sacking

Graham Potter turned down the chance to manager Leicester City after being sacked by Chelsea.

The 47-year-old lost his job just hours after Brendan Rodgers left the East Midlands club following a last-minute defeat away at Crystal Palace.

He declined a swift return to management and cited the need for a break following a turbulent time in west London.

An unattractive early option to return to a club in a relegation battle was also a likely reason to for the former Brighton coach to say no.

The episode is a curious one given Potter and Rodgers share the same agent.

Potter is likely to have a break until at least the summer before returning to management.

Rafael Benitez is the favourite to be appointed at the King Power Stadium after reports in Spain highlighted his interest.

Chelsea, meanwhile, have begun an extensive process to hire a new coach.

Julian Nagelsmann, recently sacked by Bayern Munich, and former Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino are those expected to be contacted.

The Blues may also want to speak to former Spain and Barcelona manager Luis Enrique and Sporting manager Ruben Amorim.

No appointment is thought to be imminent with co-sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart leading the search.
