Graeme Souness has revealed he was the victim of a road rage incident that saw him labelled an "idiot" by a furious driver.
The Scot has enjoyed a successful career as a pundit since leaving his last job in management at Newcastle in 2006. He signed for radio station talkSPORT for this season, joining Jim White and Simon Jordan's show on Mondays.
It was as he was on his way to one of his appearances on the station that he ran into an angry member of the public. Souness revealed this week that he was the victim of road rage as he was attempting to park his car.
“I find London very difficult with the traffic when I drive there. I’m in a car park and I’ve got someone calling me an idiot. I was doing nothing wrong this time. He was in the wrong," Souness said.
"He was going the wrong way in a car park. So, there was an early-morning confrontation. I need to take more of my pills to keep the blood pressure down. I normally take a blood pressure tablet before going on air.”
Souness takes blood pressure tablets having been diagnosed with coronary heart disease when he was 38. He underwent a triple heart bypass around that time before having a stent fitted 10 years later after an artery became blocked.

Seven years ago, he suffered a heart attack at home, though he has previously revealed his tablets have helped to calm his infamous temper. While he has added to his punditry work by joining talkSPORT, it was recently reported that he could leave Sky Sports at the end of the current campaign.
According to The Athletic, this season is expected to be his last with the broadcaster having only signed a one year contract last summer. His appearances have decreased this year and it is thought that he will leave entirely come the end of the term.
If Souness does indeed leave Sky, it would be the latest in a number of changes at the broadcaster. Over the past two years, Matt Le Tissier, Charlie Nicholas, Phil Thompson and Chris Kamara have all departed from their roles covering football.
Sky signed a new deal with the Premier League in May 2021 to continue showing the top-flight for the next three years. They have continued to refresh their punditry line-up, with Souness' potential departure the next step in that strategy.
