On April 23, millions of mobile phone users in all four UK nations are set to receive a "warning of disaster" test alert on their mobile phones. After a six-week public awareness campaign, the government believes a large proportion of the UK population will be ready for the warning sound with the level of awareness of Sunday's test 'very high'.
It adds that those remaining unaware will be alerted to the new system by the test message itself. However, there are still some things you need to know about the warning.
As the Government tests its new public notification and alert system on a national scale following initial small-scale tests in Suffolk and Reading, UK residents with 4 or 5G-enabled devices will receive a text alert at 3pm on Sunday, April 23. Any modern mobile that is compatible will be able to pick up the broadcast unless you have personally disabled the alert feature.
