The government has issued an urgent notice telling people to return two dog flea and insect repellant shampoos. The Veterinary Medicines Directorate this afternoon issued the alert, citing 'product defect ' without clarifying what that was.
The alert has gone out to sellers as well as dog owners who have bought the Johnson's items. The directorate said this is a 'Class II recall' which means is is 'a situation in which use of or exposure to a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.'
The alert impacts the Small Animal Insecticidal Shampoo 125ml bottle and the Dog Flea Shampoo 200ml bottle. The Veterinary Medicines Directorate said: "We wish to make wholesalers, retailers and end users aware that Johnson’s Veterinary Products Ltd has initiated a Class II recall of all batches for the products:
- Johnson’s Small Animal Insecticidal Shampoo 125ml bottle
- Johnson’s Dog Flea Shampoo 200ml bottle
This is due to a potential quality issue."
The directorate said Johnson’s Veterinary Products Ltd is contacting retailers and wholesale dealers to examine inventory immediately and quarantine products subject to this recall. End users should return any items to the shop at which it was purchased.
