Google launches 'preferred source' for news publishers - how to choose Standard.co.uk

Google has launched its ‘preferred sources’ feature, allowing readers to select the London Standard as their main source.

The new service, which allows users to choose which publishers they see in the ‘Top Stories’ search, is now available worldwide for everyone who consumes English-language news.

According to Google, this will give users more control over the news they consume, making it easier to access the outlets they trust.

“You can select your favorite sources and stay up to date on the latest content from the sites you follow and subscribe to — whether that’s your favorite sports blog or a local news outlet,” an earlier announcement by Google read.

Other new updates include further developments to Google’s AI services, adding more “contextual introductions” to the AI summaries users see on the search page.

As press freedoms face increased pressure around the world, and misleading AI-generated slop clogs up newsfeeds, it’s never been more important for readers to diversify their news intake while engaging and supporting trusted, independent outlets.

If you’re looking for the latest London news, The London Standard always delivers on exclusive and trustworthy reportage from across the capital.

If you want to see more local stories that get to the heart of London, then here’s how to add us to your preferred reading list.
