Google issues another urgent Chrome alert and ignoring it will put your browser at risk

If you use Chrome to check your emails, surf the web and post endless photos on social media you need to check which version you have installed without delay. Google has just issued another important alert after the discovery of a bug that could put personal data at risk.

Of course, we hear about cyber issues all the time but what makes this one so serious is the fact that it's been given a dreaded zero-day rating.

That basically means it's been spotted and is being actively exploited by cyber crooks in the wild which is why a fix is being rushed out so quickly.

Explaining more, Google said: "Google is aware that an exploit for CVE-2023-3079 exists in the wild."

Anyone who uses this browser now needs to check that they have updated to 114.0.5735.106 for Mac and Linux and 114.0.5735.110 for Windows.

Google has that it is rolling out this update now and should be available across the globe in the coming days.

It's currently unclear exactly what the bug is capable of with Google keeping full details under wraps until the majority of Chrome users have made the switch to the update.

"Access to bug details and links may be kept restricted until a majority of users are updated with a fix. We will also retain restrictions if the bug exists in a third party library that other projects similarly depend on, but haven’t yet fixed," the tech giant added.

"We would also like to thank all security researchers that worked with us during the development cycle to prevent security bugs from ever reaching the stable channel," Google added."

Here's how to check your Chrome browser.

• On your computer, open Chrome.

• At the top right, look at More More.

• If an update is pending, the icon will be coloured:

- Green: An update was released less than 2 days ago.

- Orange: An update was released about 4 days ago.

- Red: An update was released at least a week ago.

To update Google Chrome:

• On your computer, open Chrome.

• At the top right, click More More.

• Click Help and then About Google Chrome.

• Click Update Google Chrome.
Important: If you can't find this button, you're on the latest version.

• Click Relaunch.
