'Good vibes' - Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo sends message ahead of World Cup

Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo has urged for 'good vibes' ahead of his World Cup campaign beginning with Portugal on Thursday.

Ronaldo made headlines over the past week following his interview with TalkTV host Piers Morgan. In the two-part conversation which aired on Wednesday and Thursday this week, the 37-year-old criticised the club, Erik ten Hag, the Glazers and former teammates Gary Neville and Wayne Rooney for their criticisms of him.

The forward did however praise Diogo Dalot and Lisandro Martinez for their mental strengths and thanked the likes of Roy Keane and Rio Ferdinand for supporting him. It is widely believed though that Ronaldo's time with United is coming to an end.

When questioned about this by Morgan, Ronaldo replied that his full focus was currently with Portugal and the World Cup. United however have been focusing on the interview and their reaction to it.

On Friday they released the following statement: "Manchester United has this morning initiated appropriate steps in response to Cristiano Ronaldo's recent media interview. We will not be making further comment until this process reaches its conclusion."

MEN Sport understands that United are contemplating suing and sacking Ronaldo following the comments he made. Despite this, ahead of their opening fixture with Ghana on Thursday in Doha, Ronaldo took to Instagram to send a message to his supporters and the Portuguese national team squad.

"Good vibes, good vibes, the same commitment and focus we put into each challenge," he wrote. "Focus! Will! Belief! Wherever, Portugal, always!"

Ronaldo also revealed in the bombshell interview that he would retire immediately if Portugal won the World Cup in a final against Lionel Messi's Argentina. In addition, he reiterated his respect for his rival and fellow legend of the game.
