A golf coach says a girl was referencing a dream when she made indecent treatment claims in a phone conversation recorded by police.

Sean Patrick Lynch, 68, is accused of grooming a girl before engaging in multiple indecent acts with the "gifted" junior golfer from April 2017 until December 2019.

Excerpts of a 2019 phone conversation transcript between the girl and Lynch that was recorded by Queensland police were read in Brisbane District Court on Monday.

At one stage the girl asked Lynch if he could remember an alleged incident in which she claimed he indecently treated her and he replied: "Yeah I do, I do remember it".

But when asked about it on Monday, Lynch told the jury that the girl was talking about an incident that had occurred in one of her dreams.

"That was a dream. She rang me ... and told me that (incident) had happened, that she had a dream about that," Lynch said.

He said after looking back on the phone conversation that he did not know was being recorded by police, he felt that he was "being groomed" by the girl.

"I felt this was all setting me up, this is just my opinion, so they (girl's family) could get money," Lynch told the court.

Lynch said that at the time he wasn't listening properly to the girl during the phone conversation.

"When it got to this stage it was just ranting and raving (from the girl), always telling me about dreams," he said.

A string of text messages between Lynch and the girl were also shown in court.

In one exchange the girl described something as "just beautiful" and Lynch responded "like yourself".

When asked if this was an example of him grooming the girl, Lynch described it as a "normal response".

"To a 13-year-old girl?" crown prosecutor Chris Cook asked.

"Yeah, in my world," Lynch replied.

In another message, Lynch told the girl that he needed a long hug.

"One of my golfer's mums gave me a beautiful long hug one day and I have always appreciated long hugs after that - it means something," Lynch said.

The girl described Lynch as "sexy" in another text.

"You didn't tell her at any stage this is an inappropriate chat between a 60-something-year-old man and a 13-year-old child?" Mr Cook asked.

"No," Lynch said.

In another Lynch text he wrote "we are very special friends" with a love heart emoji.

"That (emoji) is just something I do, just making her feel special I guess, trying to," Lynch said.

In an August 2018 message Lynch called her adorable.

"She was an interesting character, in some ways yeah (adorable). I didn't find her attractive," he said.

Lynch rejected repeated accusations by Mr Cook that he had molested the girl, saying it never happened.

Lynch - who had worked as a "mind coach" for golfers - said he only felt guilty because he had lost contact with her.

"I felt we had let her down," he said.

"I was out of my league. I have dealt with hundreds of children, thousands of children, but I had never dealt with anyone as damaged as this kid."

Lynch has pleaded not guilty to 11 charges including indecent treatment of a child under 16, possessing child exploitation material and grooming.

The trial before Judge Vicki Loury continues.
