Golden Globes host Nikki Glaser stuns with 'disgusting' Diddy joke - but gets praised for speech overall

Golden Globes host Nikki Glaser left fans shocked with her “disgusting” joke about Sean “Diddy” Combs during her opening monologue.

The comedian, 40, was praised for her speech overall, but failed to impress with a jibe at rapper Combs - who is in New York City jail following sex trafficking charges, all of which he has denied.

Glaser addressed the quip to actress Zendaya, saying: “Zendaya, you were incredible in Dune. Oh my God, I woke up for all of your scenes. You were so good.

“And Challengers, girl? Oh my God! That movie was more sexually charged than Diddy’s credit card. I mean, seriously.”

As the stars in the audience groaned, she went on: “I’m sorry – I’m upset too. The after party is not going to be as good this year, but we have to move on.

“I know a ‘Stanley Tucci freak off’ doesn’t have the same ring to it. No baby oil this year, just lots of olive oil.”

Glazer was was referring to the “1,000 bottles of lubricant and baby oil” allegedly found in Combs’ home during a raid in September.

Authorities claimed they were used for the music mogul’s alleged “freak off” parties, where he allegedly "used force, threats of force and coercion, to cause victims to engage in extended sex acts.”

Combs, 55, was arrested on sex trafficking and racketeering charges last year.

Glaser’s joke was branded “gross” and “distasteful” by viewers at home.

“Who in that writing room thought it was a good idea to include that Diddy joke? That was literally just disgusting,” one ragedon social media.

“Diddy jokes… this is lowkey really distasteful to the victims,” another posted, and a third penned: “This was the worst joke of the night!”

“That Diddy joke was gross,” someone else chimed in.

Another said that the jibe was “annoying” but that Glaser “recovered.”

Glaser was the first woman to host the Globes in its 82-year history in Los Angeles on Sunday.

She was praised for other jokes she made in her opening monologue, including humourous quips about several A-listers in the audience.

The stand-up comic roasted Timothée Chalamet’s moustache, saying: “Timothée Chalamet, you have the most gorgeous eyelashes - on your upper lip. That is such a good look.

“You were so good and in A Complete Unknown as Bob Dylan. I read that your singing voice was so accurate that that even Bob Dylan admitted that it was absolutely horrible.”

She also took aim at Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo’s viral “holding space” interview for their movie, Wicked, saying: “Tonight we celebrate the best of film and hold space for television.”

She later said, “I’m scared. Ariana - hold my finger?” prompting the laughing singer to reach across and hold her co-star Erivo’s finger.

Glaser couldn’t resist a jab at Eddie Redmayne either, reeling off: “Eddie Redmayne did TV this year.

“He’s nominated for Peacock’s The Day of the Jackal. It’s about a top-secret elite sniper who no one can see - because he’s on Peacock.”

Viewers praised her hosting debut overall, with one writing on YouTube: “My first time watching the golden globes in full yes you heard that I STAYED for Nikki this opening monologue was enough to keep me hooked omg she ATE.”

”She’s definitely gonna be hosting the Golden Globes for the next few years!” another added.

”She’s smart. She knew where to punch, she knew how to bring a little controversy, she knew where to take it a little easy, and where to practice restraint,” a third enthused.

“Well rehearsed, written, polished. Kudos!!”
