Goa’s Bar Tesouro has been adjudged India’s best bar for 2021, according to the latest bar ranking released by beverage education firm Tulleeho and the monthly Man’s World Magazine.
Sidecar (New Delhi) and Copitas (Four Seasons Hotel, Bangalore) have taken the second and third spots in the second edition of 30 Best Bars India, for which an awards ceremony was hosted at Le Méridien, Gurgaon, on March 23.
The Bombay Canteen (Mumbai), Lair (New Delhi), Hoots’ (Vasant Vihar, New Delhi), Comorin (Gurgaon), PCO (New Delhi), AER (Four Seasons Hotel, Mumbai), and Raahi: Neo Kitchen & Bar (Bangalore) have found a place in the top 10.
The top-rankers emerged from a list of 500 bars from 12 cities, shortlisted on the recommendations of 11 jury members and 70 bar enthusiasts and experts. These bars were then cut to 100 on the basis of three parameters: vote of jury members, size of the bar industry in the city, and geographical representation. A 200-member jury then chose the winners.
This year’s ranking and awards also acknowledged bartenders and bar teams, judged by 20 industry experts. Navjot Singh from Lair (New Delhi) won the best bartender award, while Tesouro won the best bar team award. “I have travelled to bars across Europe, Asia and North America. From a cocktail and beverage programme perspective, we are reaching those standards. A main difference between Indian and bars across the world is that in London, Singapore and Hong Kong, you will find bars just focusing on drinks. I think that’s what the Indian industry will evolve to,” says Vikram Achanta, founder & CEO of Tulleeho and co-curator of 30 Best Bars.
