Goa: New cable-stayed bridge to be opened by Dec end, old bridge to be made one way

PANAJI: With a target to operationalize the first phase of the Zuari cable-stayed bridge by December end, Dilip Buildcon commenced load testing of the four lane bridge on Wednesday. PWD minister Nilesh Cabral said that till phase 2 of the bridge is complete, the existing Zuari bridge will be utilized only for traffic heading from North Goa to South Goa.

Cabral along with officials from PWD, Goa Police and Dilip Buildcon inspected the bridge and oversaw the load testing process. Dilip Buildcon has stationed 32 loaded trucks on the bridge to stress test the 640 meter long cable stayed portion of the bridge.

"In principle we have decided that the old Zuari bridge will be made one way with both lanes being used for traffic proceeding from Panaji to Vasco and Margao. The new bridge will be used for traffic heading to Panaji with only one lane kept for heavy vehicles moving to Margao," said Cabral.
