Good Morning Britain’s Susanna Reid has expressed her sadness for Prince Harry and Prince William after the Duke of Sussex claimed his brother “knocked him to the floor” during a physical altercation.
In a leaked extract of his highly anticipated autobiography, Spare, to The Guardian newspaper, Prince Harry alleged the confrontation took place at his London home in 2019 and had left him with a visible injury to his back after the Prince of Wales grabbed his brother by the collar and ripped his necklace before knocking him to the floor.
Harry further claimed William had called his wife Meghan Markle “difficult”, “rude” and “abrasive” – comments which the younger brother said parroted “the press narrative” about his wife.
Discussing the bombshell claim on Thursday’s episode of GMB, Reid shared her thoughts on the alleged events, branding it “so sensitive” and “so painful”.
She began: “This argument between them… there’s obviously so much bad blood”.
Referring to Tom Bradby’s interview in which Prince Harry admitted that he wants to reconcile with his father and brother, she continued: “How can they come back together as a family after this?
“It’s so painful.”
Weighing in on the debacle, Ben Shephard added: “It might take a long time, hopefully at some point they will, because they are still brothers who have been through what they’ve been through as children, losing their mum like they did.
“And they are uncles to each other’s children, [which is] such an important thing.”
Reid also pointed out: “We’ve got the coronation this year of course. Can he [Harry] be here for the coronation? It would be desperate if he’s not.”
According to The Guardian newspaper, the “extraordinary scene” is “one of many in Spare” which is due to be published on January 10.
The newspaper said it was able to obtain a copy of the book despite “stringent pre-launch security around the book”.
The duke’s extraordinary book claims come after the release of a teaser trailer from an ITV interview in which Harry said he wants his father and brother back.
In a series of clips from the duke’s ITV conversation, Harry told presenter Tom Bradby: “It never needed to be this way”, and referred to “the leaking and the planting” before adding: “I want a family, not an institution.”
He also said, “they feel as though it is better to keep us somehow as the villains” and “have shown absolutely no willingness to reconcile”, although it is unclear who he is referring to.
