GMB's Susanna Reid expresses 'relief' over Kate Garraway's return after Derek health scare

Susanna Reid has spoken of her 'relief' that Kate Garraway is back as a presenter on Good Morning Britain, after being left seriously worried for husband Derek Draper when his health took a turn for the worse and he was left fighting for his life once again.

Derek was placed in a medically induced coma back in the soring of 2020, after contracting coronavirus. He was taken into hospital right at the start of lockdown and stayed in medical care for over a year, with Kate and the couple's children unable to see him for months on end due to nationwide restrictions.

Former political aide Derek returned home last year, with Kate continued to give updates to ITV viewers on his progress as she presented GMB. As Susanna takes an extended break for summer, Kate was due to make a return to the breakfast show to present alongside Ben Shephard but, as Charlotte Hawkins stepped in, it was reported that Kate was missing in action because Derek had been taken into hospital, with his loved ones really concerned about him.

Kate took to Instagram at the weekend to share just how scary things had been, while confirming that she would be back on GMB on Monday. The former I'm A Celebrity contestant told fans: " Derek’s health took an unexpected & frightening turn for the worse that landed him back in intensive care & fighting for his life - again . Thanks to the amazing nhs teams & his own extraordinary life force & spirit Derek -please god - is back on the right side of it now."

Kates post saw her flooded with supportive messages from fans and her ITV colleague Susanna was also quick to send Kate and family her love. As she remains absent from GMB, with Kate hosting this week with Richard Madeley, Susanna took to Twitter to write: "What a relief that things are better. So good to have you back @gmb. Huge love to you all Kate."
