Glastonbury 2023 weather: Met Office long-range forecast suggests 'thundery' conditions

Forecasters have revealed their early weather outlook for Glastonbury 2023 with new predictions suggesting there could be "thundery" conditions in the south of England. The weather forecast currently suggests an "uncertain" second half to the month of June although temperatures are likely to feel warm.

Around 210,000 people will be preparing to descend on Worthy Farm in Pilton from June 21 to 25. Many will be wondering whether wellies will be necessary on their packing list this year.

Last year, festival-goers were treated to warm weather for much of the weekend with scatterings of showers and mild conditions. The Met Office's latest long-range forecast covers the period from June 16-30, 2023.

The Met Office's long-range prediction for the UK reads: "An uncertain second half to the month. The most likely scenario is for dry settled conditions in the north, and a risk of rain or showers, perhaps thundery, in the south.

"Winds may ease over the period leading to temperatures increasing to average to above average in eastern areas; elsewhere in the UK, it is likely to feel warm to rather warm."

A lot of rain in the weeks leading up to the event can saturate the ground and even cause flash flooding as seen on the farm in 2016. This makes it extremely difficult to get around the site when the mud is being churned up constantly by thousands of people.

There is plenty of time for the forecast to change, however, and after such warm weather in May this year there is hope for warm and dry conditions in the south. In the lead-up to Glastonbury Festival, the Met Office has said there is a small chance of rain or showers, perhaps thundery, over parts of southern and south-eastern England and Wales at the start of June.
