Glasgow woman left 'scared to go to gigs' after unprovoked attack at The 1975 concert

A woman from Glasgow has been left 'scared to go to gigs' after someone grabbed her by the throat during The 1975's concert at the OVO Hydro.

Jodie France was enjoying the gig along with her two best friends on Thursday night when she was attacked by a woman in the crowd.

The 24-year-old managed to escape her attacker by climbing on the seat and clambering into the row behind, reports the Daily Record.

Jodie said: "I was terrified.

"When she grabbed my throat I didn't know what was going to happen next because we were close to the balcony edge. I was in shock."

The concert goer, who works as a public servant, left with no injuries but she was badly shaken following the incident.

"I've got tickets for Lewis Capaldi on Tuesday but now I don't even know if I will go. This has really frightened me," she said.

Jodie was sat in the second row of the balcony with her pals but moved to the row in front when they realised ticket holders hadn't shown up.

The concert goer explained: "We left our bags and coats in our original seats behind us and moved into the front row. We spent the full concert there and were having a really good night."

Towards the end of the show, she spotted a man and woman standing in their original seats.

"Our belongings were still there so I went to collect them and realised she was standing on our coats. I told her I was going to move our things but she got right in my face.

"I couldn't hear what she was saying so I just brushed it off. I tried to lift a handbag from under the seat and she got right in my face again so I turned away to face the stage."

Jodie claims the woman walked to the row she was standing in and grabbed her by the throat.

The 24-year-old continued: "She pushed past a couple of girls and my friend and then put her hands around my neck and pushed me back.

"I panicked and started shouting for help. I managed to jump on the seat and climbed to the row behind at which point someone pulled me up."

Security removed the woman from the show and took down her contact details after calling police to the venue. However the woman left the Hydro before police arrived, and it was discovered her details were false.

Jodie said: "Police arrived and the woman's details were passed over but they worked out quickly it was a false address and phone number."

She has now taken matters into her own hands, sharing a public appeal online and hopes someone from the concert will come forward to help identify her attacker.

She added: "I'm really anxious to get to the bottom of it. I've already had someone reach out to say that they had an incident with the same woman at the concert, so I'm hoping the police can find her."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We received a report of an assault at the OVO Hydro, Glasgow around 10.55pm on Thursday, 19 January, 2023.

"Enquiries are ongoing."
