GLASGOW Film Festival has released part of its 2025 programme, with a project produced by legendary director Ken Loach set to premiere.
Over time, the Glasgow Film Festival has become one of the top film events in the UK and also acts as a launching pad for films.
Glasgow Film Festival will premiere the award-winning drama On Falling, directed by Laura Carriera, an Edinburgh filmmaker, produced by Ken Loach’s Sixteen Films.
It will premiere on February 28 but the Glasgow Film Festival will be showing the film at cinemas across the UK.
The festival is also bringing back its popular Special Event screenings, with Muriel's Wedding and The Craft at a former church, and a 25th anniversary screening of Coyote Ugly at the Grand Ole Opry.
Tickets for this event will go on sale at noon on December 16.
Austria will be the Country Focus at the 2025 Glasgow Film Festival, showcasing films by Michael Haneke, including The Piano Teacher (2001) and Hidden (2005), along with the mockumentary Piggy Bank and the absurdist drama Peacock.
Allison Gardner, CEO of Glasgow Film and director of the festival, said: “At Glasgow Film Festival we always look forward to reaching new audiences whether it be through our UK-wide screenings or special events.
“Our special events promise to be a highlight as each new festival comes around as it offers our audiences a truly interactive experience with film. We are very excited to present Country Focus From the Heart of Europe: Austria on Screen, bringing some of the best of Austria’s new and repertory film to Glasgow's big screens.”
In November 2022, the festival was awarded Big Screen Event of the Year at Screen International’s Big Screen Awards for reaching a record 73% audience capacity at its first in-person edition after Covid-19.
