Glasgow city centre streets closed off after pedestrian struck by car

A number of streets in Glasgow city centre have been closed after a person was struck by a vehicle. Police were called to the scene in the St Vincent Street area around 7.40pm this evening, February 2.

St Vincent Street, Pitt Street, Elmbank Street and Elderslie Street are all said to be affected according to reports on social media, with 999 services on the scene. Newton Street between Bath Street and St Vincent Street is also closed.

Traffic signals are also off due to being damaged in the accident, it has been reported. Gym-goer Lauren Adessi said on Twitter she "couldn’t walk home for police tape blockades, vans and ambulances".

Pictures from the scene show a huge emergency service response, with a number of police units in attendance. The condition of the pedestrian or people in the vehicle is not known at this time.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Officers are currently in attendance at a crash involving a car and a pedestrian on St Vincent Street, Glasgow which was reported around 7.40pm.

"Emergency services are in attendance and a number of road closures are in place."
