Glasgow cafe doing roaring trade with speciality 'Glesga salad' and free buttered roll

A Glasgow cafe has introduced a brand new recipe for the well-known and much loved 'Glesga salad' and it is going down a storm.

Recently opened, Gie's Piece Cafe, located on Causewayside Street started selling the local delicacy 'with a twist' due to the fantastic weather that the city has experienced over the past few weeks.

The salad is complete with the usual suspects of what the traditional Glasgow meal should consist of, such as salad cream and chips. However, the business owners have added ham, egg, chips, coleslaw, beetroot, pickled onion and a few other ingredients to give it a local twist.

The tasty dish costs £5.95 and is available for takeaway and even comes with a buttered roll included in the price.

The east end cafe is run by Sharon Riddell and her sister, Jacqueline Kelly and were inspired by the good weather to put a twist on the meal that many locals would have consumed over the years.

Sharon said: "The weather has just been so nice over the last couple of weeks and I got chatting about my younger days about going to school and all and having a Glasgow salad and I had a thought to myself - why don't we try making a Glesga salad?"

"You obviously had to have chips with the salad that was a must-have and clearly some salad cream."

"It has been really popular so far and we have sold around four this morning already and eight yesterday just as I put it on Instagram. I think it is just something that I enjoy, I like it as well and it has been doing really well for us."
