Glasgow Banksy fans say it is a 'rare occasion' and a 'privilege' to experience exhibition

Banksy's exhibition in the city centre of Glasgow at the Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA) has officially opened to the public.

This is the first solo show in 14 years that the mystifying illustrator has given the go-ahead to which will display, the exhibition, Cut and Run.

The showcase will present stencil works of the deceptive street artist, with countless people seen queuing outside of the museum, in the hope of experiencing the works by the mysterious producer.

Glasgow Live went down to the exhibition and chatted with enthusiasts of Banksy and marvelled at the excitement conjured by some of the lucky people who were fortunate enough to get tickets and gain entry.

Daniel Taylor, 21, queued since 8 am to get in with his mother, Gerry, and said he went along for "inspiration to improve my artwork."

The East Renfrewshire resident said: "I am really excited to see Banksy's artwork, I remember seeing a Youtube video of him drawing out bank notes and ever since that, I have been inspired by him."

Glasgow resident, 35-year-old, Valerie Coleman marvelled about the occasion coming to Scotland's biggest city and said: "Normally these things happen down in London so it is amazing it is happening here."

She went on to say: "I am really, really excited it is just one of those rare occasions that someone so high profile gets to come all the way up to Glasgow and we get to experience it.

"I have always been a Banksy fan over the years, I guess he has grown quite prolifically in the last decade and because he is so illusive he becomes even cooler."

A happy couple from Texas, Bill Berry, and Laurel Steinberg were travelling around the UK, whilst in London, they heard about the exhibition in Glasgow and sped up on the train to see Banksy's work.

The couple from the deep south said: "We read that you could get tickets at 8 am so we changed our travel plans, came to Glasgow, and got in line.

"We were so excited to see Banksy and we are so delighted that we've got tickets to see his work after so much risk."

Bill and Laurel are going to spend a few days in Glasgow before heading to Oban and then off to the Highlands.

Mother and daughter, Holly and Fiona Mothersdale travelled up from Durham for the day in the hope of getting some tickets and they were successful.

They said: "We have been so lucky to get some some tickets and that in itself has been really lucky.

"I just can't wait to get in there and see what is actually in there. I think it is great they aren't letting phones in because it leaves mystery for the people who haven't yet seen it."

Glasgow resident, James Costain went to the exhibition accompanied by his dad and said he was "really excited."

"Nothing like this has really happened before and it is something that is very rare and so it is almost a privilege to be here.

"Personally, I think Banksy is an inspiration, to go as far as breaking the law to truly express yourself is very commendable."
