'Glaring gap in law closed': Met Police hail new rules as officers who fail vetting to be automatically sacked

Police officers who fail background checks will automatically lose their jobs under new rules coming into force to improve confidence in policing.

Measures are to be introduced to Parliament on Wednesday which will make it a legal requirement for serving officers to pass vetting procedures.
