Glam Corrie stars worlds away from cobbles as they let their hair down at Christmas party

Coronation Street's biggest stars looked worlds away from their soap characters as they celebrated at their Christmas party.

It's been a huge year for the ITV soap, with many storylines - including some rather dark ones such as Lydia's revenge on Adam, Amy's spiking horror, Abi's shock pregnancy and Imran's death in horror car crash as well as Kelly and Gary's rooftop showdown. However, the storylines seemed to be far from their minds as the soap's biggest stars partied the night away.

Taking to Instagram, the likes of Harriet Bibby and Elle Mulvaney - who play Summer Spellman and Amy Barlow on the ITV soap - shared some snaps from the event, and they looked very different from their characters.

Sharing some snaps of her posing with her co-stars including Harriet, Channique Sterling Brown - who plays Dee Dee Bailey - as well as James Craven, who plays Summer's boyfriend Aaron and Martin Hancock, who plays Spider, Elle wrote alongside the photos: "Corrie Christmas Party 2022 @itv @coronationstreet," as her and the cast celebrated the end of the year.

Harriet wowed in a pink top and black trousers, and they all swapped different headgear for the pictures including a police hat and a plastic crown. The group enjoyed the champagne on offer as they posed for snaps with Paddy Bever, who plays Max Turner.

For viewers tuning into Coronation Street this Christmas, the show's boss Iain MacLeod confirmed it would be a fun and comedic episode this year for Christmas Day, which centres around Fiz and Tyrone.

Speaking to The Mirror and other press at a special Corrie event, which unveiled the show's brand new exterior location, Iain said: "There's loads of comedy, lots of family fun in it and lots of warmth. I sort of cried twice in the viewing of it and I'm not given to tears.

"It's really moving and lovely, but not moving in a sad way but moving in a kind of warms your cockles way. So I really think the fans are gonna love it, and the Fiz and Tyrone strand is probably the centre piece of it. It's really good fun and the right amount of silly."

Iain went on of the scenes: "Alan Halsall and Jennie McAlpine are absolutely marvellous in it, and the kids are great so it just feels totally Christmas and totally Corrie, so it's a warm end of the year for us really. It is fun and family orientated."

He added: "Corrie has always done that. A few years ago we went a little bit Die Hard with Gary Windass and Shona and the funfair story which I absolutely loved, it was very exciting."
