The family of a 17-year-old Thai girl found dead in a suitcase in Pattaya have demanded the death penalty for an Australian man charged with her murder.
Police arrested Simon Peter Carman, an Australian at Suvarnabhumi airport on Saturday. He is charged with murder, concealing, moving or destroying a body, and taking a minor for sexual purposes.
The victim, identified only as Thanchanok, was from Kalasin province.
CCTV footage showed Mr Carman entering a condominium with the girl, then leaving alone hours later carrying a suitcase, police said.
Before his transfer to Pattaya Provincial Court, Mr Carman told them: "I feel bad for what happened to your daughter. It was out of my control."
Her father, Thongchai Donhomla, 46, was devastated.
"I am deeply saddened. My daughter had no mother, so whenever she wanted anything, she would find a way herself, and she always helped me too," he said.
Stepmother Oradee Bussarakum demanded execution.
"I told the police I want him executed. … I just want him to face the full consequences," she said.
Police have yet to announce a court date. Reuters
