Girl, 12, fighting for life after being hit by van as she got off a bus

A girl is fighting for life after being hit by a van as she got off a bus.

The 12-year-old was crossing the road on Princess Drive, in Huyton, at around 3.30pm when she was struck by a white Mercedes van. Emergency services rushed to the scene before the road was quickly closed by police.

An air ambulance landed on Princess Drive before the girl was taken to Alder Hey. She is currently fighting for life in hospital.

In a statement from Merseyside Police, a spokesperson said: "We are appealing for information after a 12-year-old girl was involved in a collision in Liverpool this afternoon (Tuesday 7 June).At around 3.30pm officers were called to a report that a girl was involved in a collision with a white Mercedes van after she got off a bus on Princess Drive.

"Emergency services arrived at the scene and the girl was then taken to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital where her condition is described as critical. The driver of the van is assisting police with enquiries into the incident."

Princess Drive, Lordes Road, Liverpool Road and Gretton Road are closed whilst emergency services remain at the scene and drivers are asked to avoid the area.
