A 12-year-old girl is fighting for her life in hospital after she was struck down by a van as she got off a bus.
The schoolgirl was hit by the white Mercedes van as she crossed the road on Princess Drive, in Huyton, at roughly 3.30pm yesterday.
Emergency services were quickly scrambled to the scene and the road cordoned off by police.
The youngster was taken by air ambulance to Alder Hey Children's Hospital where she is currently fighting for life, the Liverpool Echo reports.
A Merseyside Police spokesperson said in a statement: "We are appealing for information after a 12-year-old girl was involved in a collision in Liverpool this afternoon (Tuesday 7 June).
"At around 3.30pm officers were called to a report that a girl was involved in a collision with a white Mercedes van after she got off a bus on Princess Drive.
"Emergency services arrived at the scene and the girl was then taken to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital where her condition is described as critical. The driver of the van is assisting police with enquiries into the incident."
Princess Drive, Lordes Road, Liverpool Road and Gretton Road are closed whilst emergency services remain at the scene and drivers are asked to avoid the area.
