Giovanni van Bronckhorst never doubted Antonio Colak would hit ground running at Rangers

GIOVANNI VAN BRONCKHORST never doubted Antonio Colak would hit the ground running this term after seeing the striker become an instant Ibrox hero.

The Croatian took his tally for the campaign to 13 goals for Rangers with another clinical double in the 4-0 victory over St Mirren on Saturday.

It was the third time in as many games that Colak has bagged himself a brace after he also inspired Rangers to wins over Dundee United and Hearts in recent weeks.

James Tavernier converted from the spot in the first half before Fashion Sakala rounded off the scoring late on as he capped a fine showing with a deserved goal.

Van Bronckhorst will now turn his attentions back to the Champions League as Rangers prepare for the visit of Liverpool and a glamour Group A showdown next week.

Colak was overlooked for a start at Anfield last Tuesday night but came to the fore once again as he kept Rangers within touching distance of Celtic in the title race.

Van Bronckhorst said: "It's five changes from midweek but only one change from the Hearts game, only Fashion for Ryan (Kent), so it was the team that played together last week, so it wasn't a big risk for me.

“We have to switch from different competitions with the Champions League being the most difficult. The moment we have in the league is positive and we have to keep that. "Of course we wanted him (Colak) to have a good start. I was happy we had him really early in pre-season because we knew Morelos wasn't ready for the beginning of the campaign and with the Champions League qualifiers really early in the season, he had to perform really well from the beginning which he did. I am very happy with his performances and all he has to do now is continue that. "A lot of players showed with their performances that they want to play on Wednesday.”
