Giorgios Giakoumakis sends Celtic transfer sleuths into overdrive as social media gripe decoded

Celtic fans reckon Giorgos Giakoumakis is becoming a frustrated figure at Parkhead after a cryptic post on social media.

Record Sport revealed earlier in December that contract talks have hit an impasse between the Greek striker and the club, with Celtic understood to be willing to sell him in January to avoid the risk of him running his value down. Giakoumakis is under contract until 2026 and is hot property after 25 goals in his first 50 games for Celtic, but has been a peripheral figure at times under Ange Postecoglou.

Since the Scottish Premiership came out of cold storage following the World Cup break, the towering frontman has come off the bench to replace Kyogo Furuhashi against both Aberdeen and Livingston. Giakoumakis entered the fray after 82 minutes against the Lions and appeared to reference this on social media, by sharing a picture of him replacing his Japanese teammate captioned with an hourglass emoji to Instagram.

Giakoumakis has scored eight goals in 23 appearances this season, although he has started just seven games, and supporters on social media reckon the striker's frustrations are referenced in the post. One commented: "If Giakoumakis was to leave then I'd completely understand. I really like him as a player but ultimately he'll want to be first choice & he won't get that at Celtic"

Another chimed in: "You wouldn’t blame Giakoumakis for leaving one bit" while another punter added: "He's clearly away unfortunately." One Parkhead fan warned: "Don’t think Ange is the manager that’ll accept this kind of nonsense to be honest."
