Gio van Bronckhorst responds to Rangers fan fury as he admits 'they were right' to boo misfiring stars

Gio van Bronckhorst admits fans were right to boos his misfiring Rangers stars after they scraped past Dundee.

A section of supporters audibly jeered at the full-time whistle after the Ibrox side set up a Premier Sports Cup semi-final showdown against Aberdeen with an unconvincing win on Wednesday night. Steven Davis ' early goal was the only highlight of a dreary affair, with the Championship side defending comfortably for long periods against their uninspired hosts.

In his post-match TV interview, Van Bronckhorst insisted the performance simply wasn't up to scratch as he revealed his team failed to deliver on a pre-match demand to better their laboured win over Motherwell at the weekend. But after a largely turgid 90 minutes, some fed-up punters let their team know exactly how they felt with a display of frustration that Van Bronckhorst believes was justified.

Asked about the boos on BBC Sportsound, the Rangers boss replied: “We can repair it only with our performances. They are right to boo. I wasn’t happy with the performance either. There’s only one thing to change that and it’s to improve our performance on Saturday.

“When you are not playing well they will tell you and that’s how it should be. They are our fans and we want to give them success and good matches and if we are not bringing that then we should feel it as well.

“In the last 30 you could see we were making more mistakes and losing balls in dangerous positions. We weren’t making the right decisions and it forces your confidence to go lower. That’s why we couldn’t score the second. We had some half chances in the last 10/15 minutes."
