Former Dutch national team boss Dwight Lodeweges has revealed he could have joined Gio van Bronckhorst at Rangers if he'd wanted to.
But personal circumstances in the Netherlands meant the veteran coach had to say no to his countryman.
64-year-old Lodeweges has had a storied career in his homeland, working under Ronald Koeman in the Netherlands set-up and briefly replacing him as caretaker boss.
The Canadian-born manager has coached at all levels of Dutch football and was PSV manager at the peak of his powers, but is now in charge of his boyhood club V.V.O.P in the third tier.
That move surprised some in Holland who felt Lodeweges should be working at a higher level given his pedigree and experience.
And he revealed that he could have been working alongside the likes of Roy Makaay on Van Bronckhorst's coaching staff in the Premiership - but he had to say no to the opportunity.
He said: "I could go with Giovanni van Bronckhorst to Rangers. That would be great, of course, but I couldn't do that."
Dutch outlet VP say Lodeweges was referring to his wife, who is currently recovering in hospital after an accident.
Lodeweges knows all about the Ibrox club having worked under former Rangers star Frank de Boer in the Netherlands set-up, staying on following Koeman's exit.
Many believed Lodeweges himself could have been in the frame after taking interim charge but he revealed that was never an option.
He said: "I know: you need a type like Ronald, with a lot of experience, charisma and a great career.
"I was comfortable in my role under Ronald. I liked it that way."
However he left when De Boer was sacked following Euro 2020 - a decision Lodeweges insists he still doesn't understand.
"I've never understood that," he said.
"Of course he made a few mistakes in the preparation, mixed up names, but the criticism was immediate. I really experienced him as a very nice man and certainly a professional."
