Gigi Hadid reveals rat infestation at her £4.6million New York home

Gigi Hadid says a rat infestation at her upscale New York home means she has to “update” the apartment’s outdoor space.

In a recent interview with Architectural Digest, the 29-year-old model opened up about her Manhattan property, which she bought in 2018 for £4.6million in the city’s NoHo neighbourhood.

“My outdoor space in New York is getting a little update because we had a rat problem in New York, and some of the original designs of the space didn’t help that problem,” she told the outlet when asked what she would “change” about her space.

Before adding: “So that’s what I’m looking forward to.”

New York is notorious for being the most rat-infested city in America, with reports estimating up to three million rats roaming the city.

The city’s battle against rats has intensified in recent years, with Mayor Eric Adams appointing an official “rat czar” in 2023.

In September, New York City Council approved a bill to lace rat traps with rodent birth control to curb the growing population.

While it’s unclear if the rats made it into Hadid’s living space, the runway star fortunately has another property in Pennsylvania, a farmhouse, to escape to.

In the interview, she described her interior design style as “eclectic, industrial farmhouse,” though she noted it has evolved over the years.

“The way I designed and decorated my homes or apartments at first mirrors the evolution of my fashion style,” Hadid explained.

“When I first moved to New York, my style was always on trend, and the way I decorated my apartments was safe and quite simple.”

Hadid discreetly purchased her NoHo townhouse for £4.6million in December 2018, situated in the same building as the two-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bathroom apartment she bought for £3.1million three years earlier.

She reportedly renovated and combined the two units. The townhouse features a 770-square-foot landscaped private terrace, which is now set to be rodent-free.
