The New York Giants headed down to Nashville to take on the Tennessee Titans in their season opener. Early on it seemed the Giants were going to fall short but a gutty comeback was in store for Big Blue.
Buy Giants TicketsThe Giants fell behind early and trailed at halftime, 13-0, but the Giants quickly came back in the third quarter to tie it up behind big plays by Saquon Barkley and Sterling Shepard.
With 10:38 in the 4th quarter the Giants got a break they needed when they recovered a muffed punt deep in Titans territory. Shortly after that, Daniel Jones threw an interception to end the drive.
The Giants would get another opportunity and they made the best of it. After driving down the field and pulling within one (20-19) on a pass to Chris Myrick, head coach Brian Daboll made the gutsy call to go for two. A pass to Barkley put Big Blue ahead.
The Titans would drive down the field and get within field goal range to set up the game winner. The kick went wide left and Big Blue got Daboll his first win of his career.
There were some good things from Big Blue, especially in the second half, and it was a heck of a comeback to watch for the Giants’ first Week 1 win in what seems like forever.
Let’s see how twitter reacted (in chronological order):
Again exploiting the Giants LBs. Dontrell Hilliard with a second TD. This one a 23-yarder.
Who needs Blake Martinez? This team.

Giants got a gift with the muffed punt. Jones gave a gift right back with that interception.

Saquon Barkely has 150+ yards rushing for the first time since Week 16 of 2019.

Who had Richie James to lead the #Giants in receptions and targets today? He's been the real chain mover with both Barkley and Shep giving them the big shot plays.

BIG playcall there on fourth down. Brian Daboll went with the naked bootleg from Daniel Jones. Onions.
— Jordan Raanan (@JordanRaanan) September 11, 2022
Barkley looks the best he's been since 2018 and right now he's a weapon in the red zone. The interior run blocking in the red zone has been better today than I've seen it in years. We've grown accustomed to them getting completely shut down in the run game in the red zone #Giants

Regardless of the outcome, Barkley should get NFC Offensive Player of the Week honors IMO. what a day he's had.

Shovel pass to Saquon Barkley and the Giants have a 21-20 lead with 1:06 remaining. First lead of the season.

And the Titans miss the kick. Giants steal a win in Tennessee, 21-10. First time they open the season with a W since 2016. Which also happens to be the last time they made the playoffs.

Wait I thought NY teams aren’t allowed to win in Week 1
