Giants sign LB Jarrad Davis off the Lions practice squad

Jarrad Davis has left Detroit for New York for a second time. The Lions linebacker was signed by the New York Giants off Detroit’s practice squad on Wednesday.

The Giants have to keep Davis for at least three weeks, which leads past the end of the regular season. He replaces injured OL Shane Lemieux on New York’s roster.

Davis was out of options with Detroit. He had already been elevated the maximum three times from the team’s practice squad. The veteran LB played in Weeks 10, 14 and 15. He recorded three total tackles in 37 defensive snaps and another 28 on special teams. The Lions would have had to cut someone or place another player on injured reserve to sign Davis if they intended to play him in the final two weeks.

Davis returned to Detroit after an injury-plagued year with the New York Jets in 2021. He spent his first four seasons in Detroit as the Lions’ first-round pick in the 2017 NFL draft. He was a valuable mentor for the young LB corps and helped coax some strong play out of his collegiate teammate at Florida, Lions LB Alex Anzalone.
