New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley has once again established himself as one of the league’s elite, finally leaving years of injury in the past.
But do not call it a comeback.
“I wouldn’t call it a comeback. I’ve been this guy the whole time….I’m just happy I’m able to remind everyone who I am.”

“No, I wouldn’t call it a comeback,” Barkley told Taylor Rooks. “I’ve been this guy the whole time. I just had a little battle with adversity.”
That adversity included a severe ankle injury in 2019, a torn ACL in 2020 and another fluke ankle injury in 2021, which Barkley admits was his lowest point.
“My lowest point was definitely the second ankle,” Barkley said. “The other two were football injuries. That’s part of the NFL, that’s part of football. But it’s just like how I literally turned my head and I stepped on someone’s foot. That’s probably the one time where I questioned myself and questioned God.
“I remember when I was getting carted off, the camera was on my face . . . at that moment, for some reason, I just wanted to bust out crying.”
Upon his return, Barkley regained his confidence and found motivation in proving his doubters wrong.
“I’m just happy I’m able to show everyone again and remind everyone again who I am,” Barkley said. “I really feel like I could be the best to ever play the game.”
Barkley has shown those flashes over the course of his career and is not only making a case for Comeback Player of the Year here in 2022, but potentially even making his case for league MVP.
