Giants not planning to extend CB Adoree’ Jackson?

The 2023 NFL draft is this week and the indicators could be pointing to the Giants selecting a cornerback with the 25th overall selection, if one of the top names is still available.

They are only set at one of their outside corner spots, with veteran Adoree’ Jackson, but The Athletic’s Dan Duggan believes they might be looking to replace him, too. Eventually, that is.

There have been no indications the Giants want to extend Jackson as he enters the final year of his contract. They seem content to let him play out this season then reassess.

They currently have several options at corner — all mainly unproven — and if Duggan’s reporting is correct, this could lead to them grabbing a corner in Round 1 on Thursday.

Jackson signed a three-year, $39 million deal in March of 2021 but has missed 11 games the last two years due to injury. He has largely been productive when healthy, recording 113 tackles, an interception, and 15 passes defensed.

The former first-round pick of the Tennessee Titans is still only 27 years old and if he follows up his strong 2022 with another solid showing, the Giants might rethink their stance.

Some names to keep in mind on Thursday are: Maryland’s Deonte Banks, Joey Porter Jr. of Penn State, D.J. Turner of Michigan, Mississippi State’s Emmanuel Forbes, Georgia’s Kelee Ringo, Cam Sith of South Carolina, and Julius Brents of Kansas State.
