By signing quarterback Daniel Jones just minutes before the franchise tag deadline, it allowed the New York Giants to place the tag on star running back Saquon Barkley.
Then, earlier this week, the Giants re-signed Matt Breida to join Barkley in the backfield this upcoming season.
Even with plenty of depth at the running back position, the Giants appear to have interest in a running back prospect in the upcoming draft.
RB Tyjae Spears is scheduled to have dinner this evening with the New York Giants and will meet with the Titans prior to Tulane’s pro day tomorrow, per source.

Tyjae Spears, a 5-foot-9 junior out of Tulane, is one of the more athletic running backs in the upcoming draft. Spears would bring a different type of player to the Giants’ offense. He had a monster year in his final college season, nearly doubling his total rushing yards from the year before.
Speed is a big part of Spears’ game. He ran a 4.4 in the 40-yard dash at the combine.
The Giants have more pressing needs than they do at running back which is likely why they’d be interested in a projected middle-round back like Spears as opposed to players likely to be taken in Round 1.
Still, adding a play like Spears would help speed up the team’s offense even more, which has clearly been a priority for general manager Joe Schoen this offseason.
